For UAE-resident businesses, VAT registration is mandatory when taxable supplies and imports exceed AED 375,000 over the previous 12 months or are expected to exceed that amount within the next 30 days. Voluntary registration may be available above AED 187,500. Different rules can apply to non-resident businesses.
VAT registration is completed through the FTA’s EmaraTax platform. The applicant creates or accesses a Taxable Person profile, selects VAT registration, completes the application and uploads the required supporting documents. A person required to register should apply within the applicable FTA deadline.
A registered business must generally submit its VAT return and make the related VAT payment within 28 days from the end of its assigned Tax Period. The exact due date should be checked in the business’s EmaraTax dashboard.
Requirements depend on the applicant’s legal form. Common documents include the trade licence, incorporation or constitutional documents, Emirates ID and passport copies of owners and authorised signatories, turnover declarations, and supporting evidence such as invoices, contracts or purchase orders.
